Professional Opera Singer & Vocal Coach

Sing freely, sing fully

Hello, I’m Milda — an opera singer and singing teacher trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. I give singing lessons in Canterbury for every age, ability and style. From your first notes right through to the concert stage.

After years on the opera and concert stage, I now pour that same passion into nurturing the next generation of singers.

Lessons

Singing classes
tailored to your voice

Every lesson is shaped around you — whether you’re taking your very first singing lesson or fine-tuning a voice you’ve developed over time, you’ll find a welcoming space to grow with confidence. My teaching stems from years of international performance and study. After more than 3 decades as a singer and 15 years as a vocal coach, I have come to treasure guiding others above all else.

I care deeply about each student’s individuality, growth and personal journey through music. My experience and intuition allow me to hear quickly where your voice wants to go. Drawing on the timeless principles of the Bel Canto tradition, I will help you learn to sing with greater ease, confidence and authenticity. Free, supported and sustained breath will allow you to trust your voice and surrender fully to your natural talent.

About me

Milda Smalakytė

Music has been my way of making sense of the world for as long as I can remember. My earliest memory is singing my heart out as a little girl in the kindergarten with complete joy, while feeling an extraordinary sensation of freedom and resonance deep within the core of my body.

I could sense that singing was more than making sound — it was something that connected breath, body and spirit.

Born in Lithuania, I began my formal music education at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and had the honour of performing with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra before broadening my horizons through international masterclasses in Berlin and Paris.

Driven by a passion for knowledge, I moved to the vibrant heart of London, where I pursued a Master’s Degree in Opera Performance and graduated with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Throughout my formative years, I was fortunate to be guided by remarkable teachers and inspiring personalities who recognised my potential, nurtured my talent and shaped both the musician and the person I am today. Their wisdom, generosity and belief in me continue to inspire my own teaching, and for that I am deeply grateful.

Music has also given me some of life’s greatest gifts beyond the stage. My husband and I first met as performers, and after first marrying on stage in Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”, we married in real life a few years later. Today, we share our lives with our two wonderful children and a rather elegant greyhound. Our home remains a place where music is cherished, voices are nurtured and everyone who loves to sing is warmly welcomed.

There’s no single right way to sing — only the voice that’s truly yours.

— Esther Thomas, UK
Milda is the best teacher I've ever had. She is warm, makes me feel entirely comfortable, and adapts her teaching perfectly to my needs. She understands straight away what I am doing with this 'hidden' instrument, giving advice that has an immediate effect. My voice has transformed, and I trust her completely.
— Marina Iliopoulou, GR
Milda is a wonderful teacher. Her passion for music shines through in every lesson. She has great empathy and intuition and an amazing ability to tap into Rosa's potential. She brings fun and lightness into the lessons. My daughter's confidence has grown immensely and when I asked her, why she felt this was, she simply said 'Milda'.
